5 Hours to a Healthy Heart

The parents of little Vika had no idea about their daughter's health problems. This is often the case with heart defects. It is quite difficult to trace when the disease appears, and sometimes it can progress to a critical point without any visible external signs.

In such a case, only proper examination and timely assistance can save a life.

About a month ago, the parents took their children to the hospital to re-sign a declaration with the family doctor. A common procedure in today's realities, and there were no complaints at the time. Vika was only 2 years old and couldn't clearly explain what was bothering her yet. During the examination, the pediatrician heard heart murmurs in the child, so she referred the family to Boyarka for a more thorough examination. It was there that doctors found a heart defect in the girl. The diagnosis was Tetralogy of Fallot.

During development and formation in the womb, Vika's heart malfunctioned, which turned into congenital defects.

Doctors noticed stenosis of one of the pathways of the right ventricle, a ventricular septal defect, aortic displacement, and as a result – hypertrophy of the right ventricular heart muscle. There are few options for living with this. Surgery is needed.

Vika was referred to the Amosov Institute of Heart Surgery in Kyiv, where she could receive full treatment. Already in the capital, other specialists confirmed the diagnosis, and the girl was admitted to prepare for surgery.

In a few days, Vika successfully coped with this difficult challenge. Assistance was provided to the girl within the framework of the "Big Little Heart" project, thanks to the help of the Guzema Fine Jewelry brand and Synevo. The girl was provided with the necessary medications and consumables during the surgery and her stay in the intensive care unit.

For 5 difficult hours, doctors stitched up holes and placed a valve in the girl's heart. She spent only a day in intensive care and recovered quite quickly. According to doctors, the little girl may need another operation when she is 30-40 years old. In the meantime, she is returning to her family to live her carefree childhood.
