They helped Ivanko widen his aorta.

For some time before Ivanko's birth, his future mother was in the hospital. Doctors indicated that the baby likely had kidney problems, so a cesarean section was performed during delivery to protect him from potential risks. Everything went well; the boy was born weighing 2400 grams and 48 cm tall, but the baby cried a lot.

For Ivan and Myroslava, a family from the Transcarpathian region, specifically the city of Uzhhorod, this was their first child. Naturally, the parents were very worried, so after the birth, they took him for examination by all possible doctors. It was then that they heard heart murmurs.

Ivan's family urgently went to the Mukachevo Cardiology Center, from where they were referred to Kyiv to the Amosov Heart Institute, as little Ivan had a vascular pathology near his heart that could cause a whole host of additional diseases.

Coarctation of the aorta, or in other words, the narrowing of the walls of the main vessel near the heart, causes significant disruptions in heart function. This pathology can block the ducts in the vessels and thus cause insufficient blood supply. In such cases, medication can usually only alleviate the situation to a certain extent, but without surgical intervention, the chances of a long life are very small.

Upon arrival in Kyiv, the diagnosis was confirmed for the little boy, and an immediate operation – a catheterization – was insisted upon. Fortunately, everything went well, and the child spent only a week in intensive care. This was in March of this year. Ivanko was discharged and allowed to go home for a while so that everything would heal and so that his body could begin to prepare for the next, more complex surgery. Ivanko had to visit doctors weekly, and finally, in June, his next visit to Kyiv was scheduled.

This time, his defect was completely eliminated in just 2.5 hours. After four days, the boy regained consciousness, and the family went home.

Throughout the baby's stay in the Amosov intensive care unit, thanks to the Charity Chain project – a joint project of the "Tvoya opora" charitable foundation and the Guzema Fine Jewelry brand – it was possible to provide all the necessary medications and расходные материалы (consumables). Now nothing threatens Ivanko anymore.

We hope that no complications will arise, so all he will need is to be checked from time to time and perhaps repeat the catheterization procedure in adulthood. We wish him a speedy recovery.
