Mykhailyk was only 5 days old when doctors first heard signs of a severe heart pathology. Until that moment, his mother Maryna had no idea that her child might have health problems.
Immediately after birth, the pediatrician examined Mykhailyk and recorded heart murmurs. After discussing the possible risks with the parents, the boy was quickly sent for an ultrasound at the district hospital in Khmelnytskyi. There, he underwent a thorough examination, and the diagnosis was confirmed.
This defect is one of the most frequently diagnosed heart defects in young children among all possible anomalies. However, the complexity of the situation requires an immediate solution, as this particular defect combines stenosis of the right ventricular outflow tract, a ventricular septal defect, dextroposition of the aorta, and, as a consequence, hypertrophy. This causes a disruption in the body's blood circulation, so immediate diagnosis and surgery are necessary.
The family was informed of this at the Amosov Heart Institute, where they arrived when the boy was two months old. Before the first surgery, the boy had to come for check-ups and take medication to maintain his condition.
Two months later, the surgery was postponed again because the child's condition was not stable enough for such a complex surgical intervention. But finally, at 8 months old, Mykhailyk underwent surgery. It lasted 6 hours and was successful.
Thanks to the Charity Chain project – a joint project of the "Tvoya opora" foundation and the Guzema Fine Jewelry brand – the child was provided with all the necessary medications during his stay in intensive care.
Currently, the boy has almost recovered and feels well. The second surgery will be in approximately six months, but doctors cannot say for sure right now, so it is necessary to constantly go for check-ups and monitor his heart.
