When the illness returns
Zhenya was born with a congenital heart defect – the girl had stenosis of the pulmonary artery. Soon after, with the support of our Foundation, she underwent surgery at the M.M. Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery. The child tolerated the operation well, so after some time, she was discharged home to recover.
However, after three months, the little girl's condition worsened. Doctors at the Institute prescribed medication and advised her parents to consult a local cardiologist. For a while, Yevheniia did feel better, but the girl's overall condition greatly worried her mother. When she learned that a team of doctors from the Institute would be coming to Mukachevo in September, she scheduled a consultation for her daughter with them.
After the examination, it was decided to urgently transport Yevheniia to Kyiv, as the girl's tests and condition caused serious concern among the doctors. The situation was also complicated by very unstable blood pressure. In the capital, over five days, doctors at the Amosov Institute conducted a thorough examination of the child, and based on its results, a decision was made for a repeat surgery.
For seven hours, surgeons did everything possible to improve the girl's condition and corrected the heart defect. Zhenya is a very brave girl! She courageously endured the surgery and all the examinations. It is currently unknown whether our ward will need another surgery, but important steps towards recovery have already been taken. Now, Yevheniia needs to gain strength, recover after the surgery, and undergo regular check-ups with a cardiologist. We wish our brave little hero strength, good health, and well-being.
Both of the girl's heart surgeries were performed within the framework of the Foundation's "Big Little Heart" project. You can always help other children in need of surgery or rehabilitation on our website.
We were able to obtain all the necessary medications for Yevheniia thanks to #Сharity_chain, a joint project of the "Tvoya opora" Charitable Foundation and the Guzema Jewelry brand.
And thanks to the singer and influencer Diana Gloster, the girl received the Custodiol solution, which is essential for open-heart surgery, free of charge.
