Doctors overcame Veronika's heart defect on the third attempt.

For the first two years, loud laughter echoed in the Panchenko family until one day, little Nika fell ill. First, pneumonia, and then suspicions of serious heart problems. When the girl was admitted to the Nizhyn hospital with inflammation, the doctors fully examined the little one and carefully listened to her heart. It was her heart that caused everyone to worry. First, she and her parents were sent for an ultrasound in the Chernihiv regional hospital, and the doctors raised the alarm. The problems were serious. They urgently needed to go to Kyiv for surgery.

The child was diagnosed with atrioventricular canal defect – a defect in the septum between the atria, accompanied by impaired formation of the AV valve and lesions of the mitral valve. These defects are a consequence of the underdevelopment of endocardial cushions. Intervention was necessary, as the risks of rapid development of heart failure were very high.

At the Amosov Heart Institute, the girl underwent pulmonary hypertension treatment. After that, Veronika faced four difficult years. The girl did not go to kindergarten like all her peers, did not spend time actively, and was forced to take medication constantly. In May of this year, the little one was examined again and informed that another surgery was needed. The child underwent valve plasty. The surgery lasted 8 hours. The doctors tried their best to correct the defects, but they could not do everything at once. Two days later, they performed another surgery to replace the valves.

Fortunately, everything worked out. For about 10 days after the surgery, the girl was still gaining strength in intensive care. We believe that everything will be fine now. Doctors predict that no more surgeries will be needed. The parents are very grateful for the help of the Charity Chain project – a joint project of the Guzema Fine Jewelry brand and the "Tvoya opora" charitable foundation.

May Veronika recover as soon as possible!
