Olga gave birth to her daughter without any suspicion about the little one's diagnosis. Only on the third day were the parents informed about suspicious heart murmurs.

The birth took place in the Kyiv region, but becoming anxious about the baby's heart condition, the family was quickly sent to the regional hospital. However, even here, a final diagnosis was not made, and Polina was taken to Okhmatdyt (National Children's Specialized Hospital).

It turned out that the girl had an atrial septal defect. This pathological opening allows blood to flow from the left atrium to the right atrium, thereby overloading the pulmonary circulation with an excessive volume of blood. Unfortunately, this defect does not close on its own, so surgical intervention was inevitable. The only question was when the girl would be ready for the operation.

The child was examined at Okhmatdyt for several years, and after the start of the quarantine, at private clinics. Since the doctors did not give precise prognoses, the mother turned to the Amosov Institute. The girl was examined and scheduled for urgent surgery. The girl's operation lasted 5 hours, during which a "patch" – a special membrane – was placed on her tiny heart, thanks to which the blood began to circulate correctly and without interruptions.

Everything went successfully, and after the surgery, the child spent only a day in intensive care. The parents are very grateful for the help of the #charity_chain project, a joint project of "Tvoya opora" and Gusema Jewerly Charity Chain, for providing the necessary medications and расходные материалы (consumables) during their stay in intensive care.

We are very happy that Polinka endured the surgery so confidently and bravely. She is already home, and the doctors give very positive prognoses. No more surgeries are planned, but the family will come for regular check-ups every three months.
