Congenital heart defects are never 100% predictable.

When planning a pregnancy, it's difficult to outline all possible risks. Similarly, after receiving a diagnosis, it's not entirely easy to trace the roots of developmental problems in a child's heart. However, modern medicine does not stand still, and the absence of an answer to some "Why?" questions does not prevent finding the "How?".

The development of complications from congenital heart defects (CHDs) can be avoided if the problem is diagnosed in time. The parents of our little heroine Angelina learned from their own experience that nothing is impossible if there are people nearby who are ready to support and help.

When the little girl was just over a year old, during a routine check-up, her parents learned about heart problems. The pediatrician listened to the child and heard murmurs, so she immediately sent them for an examination. While still in Mariupol, the girl was diagnosed with an atrial septal defect.

Between the left and right atria of the little one, there is a hole that prevents the normal functioning of the heart. Angelina's parents were advised to seek help from doctors from the Amosov Institute, who often come to Mariupol for scheduled check-ups. The family caught their lucky break and managed to get a diagnostic appointment. After the examination, the doctors took the little girl for surgery to Kyiv.

The family managed to come, thanks in particular to the support of the Charity Chain project – a joint project of the Guzema Fine Jewelry brand and the "Tvoya opora" charitable foundation, which provided the little one with the necessary medications and medical supplies during the surgery and the stay in intensive care.

It took 3 hours to correct the defect and perform heart plasty. After the surgery, the girl spent 7 days in intensive care. Now everything will be fine with her, and according to doctors' forecasts, no more surgical interventions will be needed. The girl will grow up healthy, and in a year even minor physical exertion will be allowed. We wish her and her family strong health.
