At just over a year old, Liza is a very calm and good child, who loves animals and her parents' hugs. And no one would even suspect that her kind little heart is experiencing serious malfunctions. Liza has small holes in her heart. This diagnosis is called an atrial septal defect.
The defect is very dangerous for her tiny body, as it causes blood shunting at the atrial level. This threatens a sharp progression of heart disease in the second decade of life. Therefore, if no intervention occurs, it may be too late later.
The girl's heart pathology was not discovered immediately. Her mother gave birth naturally, and the labor and pregnancy were easy. Her weight was 3,000 g, and her height was 54 cm. It was only at 3.5 months, after being admitted to the hospital with acute bronchitis, that doctors performed a cardiogram and learned about the defect.
While still in Berdyansk, the girl was treated with medication to support her general condition and help her body get stronger. And at eight months old, they went for a consultation at the Amosov Heart Institute. They decided not to delay and scheduled her for surgery. In just 4 hours, the little girl's heart holes were sewn up.
Liza is a brave little one. She courageously endured the surgery. The girl spent only 7 days in intensive care. Thanks to the Charity Chain project – a joint project of the "Tvoya opora" foundation and the Guzema Fine Jewelry brand – the child was provided with all the necessary medications. The further course of her recovery is not yet known, so the family is expected for a check-up in six months.
