We don't know what happened in the life of this fair-haired boy, but we certainly understand: the child has suffered.
7-year-old Mykyta Zhyvotovskyi is an adopted son. In childhood, he and two brothers were taken in by another family. And while the children were surrounded with as much love as possible, it turned out: Mykytka was very ill. During one of the check-ups, the doctor heard heart murmurs. Then came a cardiologist's examination, an urgent referral to Kyiv to the M.M. Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery, and, like a bolt from the blue, a diagnosis: congenital bicuspid aortic valve.
What is it? The aortic valve is a structure between the heart and the aorta – the main artery that extends from the heart and delivers oxygen-rich blood to the body. Normally, the aortic valve has three small leaflets that open wide and close tightly, allowing blood to flow from the heart to the aorta and not return to the heart. With a bicuspid aortic valve, there are only two leaflets. Due to this deformity, the valve does not work perfectly, overloading the heart. This diagnosis means surgery. Sooner or later.
Fortunately, Mykytka's surgery was not scheduled immediately. The doctors decided that he still needed to grow. The body had resources. Therefore, from the age of two, his adoptive mother Olga took her son for regular check-ups. Until he turned seven. Then, surgical intervention was scheduled.
It was a complex operation. Doctors placed an artificial valve right into Mykytka's heart.
Fortunately, everything went according to plan. The boy recovered quickly, and now he is already at home with his brothers and loving adoptive parents.
Mykytka's guardian, Olga Fedoryaka, sincerely thanks "Charity Weekend. Healthy Day with Masha Yefrosinina" – the project thanks to which her child received help.
