That's how Zakharchyk was born, and on the second day of his life, he ended up in intensive care. The reason was a heart defect, transposition of the great arteries. The diagnosis was made by doctors from the M.M. Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery.

It turned out that the main vessels leaving the heart – the aorta and the trunk of the pulmonary artery – were switched in Zakharchyk's case. Because of this, there were two completely unconnected circulatory systems in his small body. Oxygen-poor venous blood from the right atrium entered the right ventricle, from there into the aorta that branches off from it, and then into the systemic circulation. Since it bypassed the lungs, it never had a chance to become saturated with oxygen. At the same time, blood from the lungs traveled through the pulmonary veins to the left atrium, then to the left ventricle, into the pulmonary artery, and back to the lungs.

Simply put, without surgical intervention, the boy would not have survived.

Doctors urgently took Zakhar with them to the Institute. On the same day, they performed a "puncture" in his heart to connect the circulatory systems. Then, a radical operation was planned. However, it only took place three weeks later – that's how much time the boy needed to get stronger. The operation itself was very complex: the vessels were switched in the little boy's body. Fortunately, everything went well. He spent another two weeks in intensive care, recovering after the intervention.

Now Zakharchyk is already at home. His mother Ksenia is very grateful to the doctors and benefactors for saving her son.
