They found out about Artem's heart defect on the first day of his birth. Even in the maternity hospital, they heard heart murmurs in the little one. Doctors performed an ultrasound and noticed a small hole. At that moment, this defect didn't seem like a serious threat.

A tiny defect in a baby's heart can be caused by improper development during pregnancy, but over time, such holes most likely close on their own, and the child does not need to be burdened with additional heart surgeries.

So, cardiologists assured Artem's mother that they should wait until he was a month old, and the hole should close on its own. The child would be healthy, but regular check-ups with doctors were now mandatory.

The boy was born in July 2020. For a year and a half, they waited for everything to close up on its own, but despite the baby's good health, the defect did not disappear. Already in November 2021, cardiologists from their hometown became concerned, so they decided to send the family to Kyiv to the Amosov Institute of Heart Surgery.

At the next consultation, the parents received disappointing news. The child didn't just have a hole in his heart, but a complex defect that included four defects at once. The diagnosis was Tetralogy of Fallot. This disease is quite common among congenital heart defects, so the local cardiac surgeons understood the work that awaited them. An operation date was set. The parents readily agreed.

For 5 hours, doctors swirled around Artem like bees. They closed the hole and corrected serious defects. After three days, the boy recovered and was transferred to a regular ward.
